Undergraduate Nursing Scholarships

How to Apply

To apply for scholarships offered through the Dishman School of Nursing, as well as those offered by Lamar University, apply online at lamar.edu/myscholarships, Lamar University's online scholarship application management system. New students will first need to apply for admission to the university in order to receive a username and password in order to submit an application.  Current students will use their existing LU credentials to log in to the site.

Scholarships for MSN Students

 
Mary Ellen Barclay Memorial Scholarship in Nursing (Annually Funded)
Selection Criteria:
Major / Degree:   Bachelor in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Open to all class levels
Class Load:   Full-time student
Other:   Preference given to students who have returned to college after a pause in their education. Must be in good standing with the University. BSN students can remain on the scholarship for 8 semesters.

 

Margaret R. Bonura Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level:   All levels
Class Load:   Full-time students as defined by nursing curriculum. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not need to be full-time to complete the requirements for graduation, or students enrolled in clinical courses.
Other:   The donor's intent is that the scholarship committee give preference to students to whom they are aware have the greatest need for financial assistance.

 

Catherine Hurley Clark Scholarship in Nursing (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA
Class Level:   Available to students admitted into one of the above programs
Class Load:   Full-time in given program
Other:   Preference will be given to graduates of Hardin and Jefferson County High Schools

 

Anna England Crow Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level:   Junior or Senior
Class Load:   Full-time students as defined by nursing curriculum. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not need to be full-time to complete the requirements for graduation.
   
Vivian Belt Denby Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Endowed)
 
Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Open to all undergraduate students
Class Load:   Full-time student, minimum 12 semester hours
Other:   Student must be a "good citizen" of Lamar University and the community.

 

George A. Dishman Sr. Presidential Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Incoming freshmen who have declared pre-nursing as their major.
Class Load:   Full-time students
Other:   SAT score of 1050 or better and should be in the top 15% of high school class. Student may remain on the scholarship for 8 long semesters as long as they are in good standing with the university.

        

Howard and Syble Eastepp Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Open to all class levels
Class Load:   Full-time in given program
Other:   Preference to persons with children who have a desire to better their lifestyles and community. Must be in good standing with the university.

        

Marie E. Gordon Presidential Scholarship in Nursing (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Must maintain a 3.0 GPA
Class Level:   Undergraduate Nursing Students
Class Load:   Full-time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all of the required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full-time.
Other:   Must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.

 

Bill and Johnnie Grantham Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level:   Undergraduate and graduate level students
Class Load:   Full-time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all of the required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full-time.

 

Tim Halley Memorial Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0 for continuing student
Class Level:   Sophomore level or greater, includes graduate students
Class Load:   Full-time or part-time in given program.
Other:   Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the nominee's efforts and leadership to provide service or care to people with AIDS or HIV; to increase public understanding and awareness of the dangers of AIDS/HIV and high-risk behaviors, or who has made a significant impact on AIDS/HIV prevention or treatment.

 

Thelma V. Harlow Endowed Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachlor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Junior or senior (outstanding upperclassmen)
Class Load:   Full-time, including the year in the nursing program when "full time" is less than 12 credit hours
Other:   Funds should be distributed only to students who have graduated from high schools in Jefferson and Orange counties. Demonstrated leadership and commitment to Nursing as a profession (i.e., LUTNSA or STTI involvement). "It is preferred that at least two recipients be selected annually to receive a minimum award of $4,000 each. The awards are to be divided between the Fall and Spring semesters."

 

Lila and Hunter W. Henry, Jr. Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Baccalaureate in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Undergraduate Nursing Students
Class Load:   Full-time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full-time.

 

Kappa Kappa Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International (External)

1. Student must be currently enrolled in a Baccalaureate degree nursing program.
2. Evidence of satisfactory scholastic ability as indicated by collegiate grade point average and attached current transcript of undergraduate records.
3. Evidence that the award would significantly assist the student in achievement of his/her educational and career goals.
4. Letters of recommendation from two faculty members and one professional associate.
5. Evidence of leadership ability in professional and/or community activities.
   

 

Betty Kubala Scholarship Application (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Open to all levels, including graduate students
Class Load:   Full-time or part-time nursing students
Other:   Students may remain on the scholarship until graduation

 

Audie Nelson Little Memorial Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.0
Class Level:   Open to all BSN class levels
Class Load:   Full-time in given program
Other:   Student must be a "good citizen" of Lamar Univeristy and the community.


James Bernard Murphy and Anita Murphy Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.5
Class Level:   Open to undergraduate students
Class Load:   Full-time in BSN Program
Other:   Financial need, possibly from a family with more than one student attending college and preferably lives at home. Student must be a "good citizen" of Lamar University and the community.

 

Minh-Dang Nguyen Memorial Scholarship in Nursing (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level:   Open to undergraduate level students
Class Load:   Full time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full time.

 

PRN Medical Services Scholarship in Nursing (Annually Funded)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 2.0 (not specified, program requirement)
Class Level:   Open to undergraduate students
Class Load:   Full-time in BSN Program
Other:   The Nursing School may use this scholarship to recruit incoming freshman students, or award to those students with financial need or students identified by the Department.  The Nursing Department has the discretion each year to determine the greatest need.

 

Renaissance Hospital Scholarship Foundation (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Open to all levels
Class Load:   Full-time student
Other:   Student must display "good moral character and motivation toward patient care." Strong consideration will be given to students interested in practicing in Jefferson or Orange county.

 

Frank Rollins Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Have at least 30 semester hours
Class Load:   Full-time student
Other:   Student must display "good citizen" or Lamar University and the community. Resident of Jefferson County, Texas. Must be in one of the pre-professional programs within the college of Arts and Sciences or must be working toward a Bachelor's degree in nursing.

          

Mary Francis Dishman Sherlock Endowed Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor Degree in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Open to all levels
Class Load:   Full-time students
Other:   Recipients will be selected by School of Nursing Scholarship committee.  To be awarded to academically exceptional students.  A scholarship grant not to exceed $2,000 annually will be awarded and paid in amounts up to $1,000 at the registration of the semester for which the scholarship is granted.  Recipient must remain on sequence in nursing program and may be awarded for a maximum total of four academic years (eight regular semesters).  Acknowledged "good citizen" of LU and community.

 

Dr. Richard L. and Lois M. Shorkey Memorial Scholarship in Nursing (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Minimum 3.0
Class Level:   Open to undergraduate students
Class Load:   Full-time in BSN Program
Other:   Resident of Jefferson County. Student must be a "good citizen" of Lamar University and the community.

 

Mamie McFaddin Ward Health Careers Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Bachelor's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 3.0 to remain on scholarship
Class Level:   Open to all levels
Class Load:   Full-time BSN students. Exceptions may be made for undergraduate students in the nursing program who are taking the full complement of nursing classes required during a particular semester.
Other:   Financial need, SAT scores, scholastic potential

 

Margaret Forry Winslow Nursing Scholarship (Endowed)

Student must be admitted to the Nursing Program at Lamar  University, Beaumont, Texas.  Preference shall  be given to single parents seeking a nursing degree.
