Graduate Nursing Scholarships

How to Apply

To apply for scholarships offered through the Dishman School of Nursing, as well as those offered by Lamar University, apply online at lamar.edu/myscholarships, Lamar University's online scholarship application management system. New students will first need to apply for admission to the university in order to receive a username and password in order to submit an application.  Current students will use their existing LU credentials to log in to the site.

Scholarships for BSN Students

 

Margaret R. Bonura Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level: All levels
Class Load: Full-time students as defined by nursing curriculum. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not need to be full-time to complete the requirements for graduation, or students enrolled in clinical courses or Master's courses.
Other: The donor's intent is that the scholarship committee give preference to students to whom they are aware have the greatest need for financial assistance.

        

Anna England Crow Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:    
Major / Degree:   Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA:   Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level:  

Graduate Nursing Students

Class Load:   Full-time students as defined by nursing curriculum. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not need to be full-time to complete the requirements for graduation.

   

Howard and Syble Eastepp Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 2.5
Class Level: Open to graduate students
Class Load: Full-time in given program
Other: Preference to persons with children who have a desire to better their lifestyles and community. Must be in good standing with the university.

       

Bill and Johnnie Grantham Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's degree
Overall GPA: Must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level: Graduate level students
Class Load: Full-time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all of the required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full-time.

 

Tim Halley Memorial Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 3.0 for continuing student
Class Level: Sophomore level or greater, includes graduate students
Class Load: Full-time or part-time in given program.
Other: Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the nominee's efforts and leadership to provide service or care to people with AIDS or HIV; to increase public understanding and awareness of the dangers of AIDS/HIV and high-risk behaviors, or who has made a significant impact on AIDS/HIV prevention or treatment.

 

Lila and Hunter W. Henry, Jr. Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 2.5
Class Level: Graduate Nursing Students
Class Load: Full-time or part-time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full-time.

     

Kappa Kappa Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International (External)

1. Student must be currently enrolled in a Master's degree nursing program.
2. Evidence of satisfactory scholastic ability as indicated by collegiate grade point average and attached current transcript of undergraduate records.
3. Evidence that the award would significantly assist the student in achievement of his/her educational and career goals.
4. Letters of recommendation from two faculty members and one professional associate.
5. Evidence of leadership ability in professional and/or community activities.

 

Betty Kubala Scholarship  (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 2.5
Class Level: Open to graduate students
Class Load: Full-time or part-time nursing students
Other: Students may remain on the scholarship until graduation

 

Audie Nelson Little Memorial Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 2.0
Class Level: Open to all MSN class levels
Class Load: Full-time in given program (9 hours)
Other: Student must be a "good citizen" of Lamar Univeristy and the community.

     

Minh-Dang Nguyen Memorial Scholarship in Nursing

Selection Criteria:
Major / Degree: Master's Degree in Nursing
Overall GPA: Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship and may remain on it until graduation subject to a probationary period in accordance with standard university procedures for continuation of a scholarship.
Class Level: Graduate level students
Class Load: Full time students. Exceptions may be made for semesters when students are taking all required nursing courses and the credit hour total is below full time.

 

Mamie McFaddin Ward Health Careers Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:
Major / Degree: Master's Degree in Nursing
Overall GPA: Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain on the scholarship
Class Level: Open to all Levels
Class Load: Part-time Master of Science in nursing students. Exceptions may be made for undergraduate students in the nursing program who are taking the full complement of nursing classes required during a particular semester.
Other: Financial need, SAT scores, scholastic potential

 

Margaret Forry Winslow Nursing Scholarship (Endowed)

Selection Criteria:  
Major / Degree: Master's Degree in Nursing
Overall GPA: Minimum 2.0
Class Level: Open to all levels
Class Load: Full-time students (9 hours)
Other: Student must be admitted to the Nursing Program at Lamar  University, Beaumont, Texas.  Preference shall  be given to single parents seeking a nursing degree.

 

 

Graduate School Scholarship   – Full-time 

  • Students must be enrolled in 9 credit hours in the Fall and Spring Semesters; enrolled in 3 credit hours during the summer
  • GPA must be 3.0 or better, no exceptions

 

Harrington Nurse Educator Fellowship (Selected Scholarship in Nursing) – Full-time or Part-time

  • Candidates are selected by demonstrated potential as a Nurse Educator for the Southeast Texas Region.
  • Awardees agree to use Fellowship stipend for Graduate Nursing Education in preparation for an academic role; preferably Nursing Education Track, and/or for conferences or research appropriate for the nurse educator role.
  • Recipients will participate in Nursing Education activities as agreed to between the Dishman School of Nursing Chairperson and recipient (e.g. research activities) to develop the nurse educator role.
  • Stipend will be awarded no earlier than the second semester of the MSN Program and for no longer than 3 long semesters and a summer or five long semesters and a summer session for part-time students.
  • Stipend amount will vary between full and part-time study candidates as well as semester to semester.
  • Stipends are contingent upon funding received by the department
  • Recipients are to maintain academic qualifications throughout the stipend period.
  • Recipients must enter into an agreement with the Lamar University Dishman School of Nursing  to apply for a nurse faculty position in Southeast Texas within 6 months of graduation from the MSN program or reimburse the Dishman School of Nursing for stipend payment.
  • If hired by a nursing program in Southeast Texas, the recipient will agree to teach one semester per each semester the stipend was awarded.
  • If the recipient resigns his/her position prior to the reciprocal agreement, then the awardees need to pay the stipend back to the Lamar University Dishman School of Nursing for the remaining time period.
  • The awardees will sign a  statement of prepayment and intent to fulfill the Fellowship Stipend criteria  or incur the cost of repayment when criteria are unmet.
