Dr. Mary L. Scheer helped create and served as the first director of the Center for History and Culture at Lamar University. During her career at Lamar, she taught the second half of the U.S. survey, Texas history, women's history, and the history of American social and reform movements, among other courses. She authored The Foundations of Texan Philanthropy (Texas A&M University Press, 2004), co-edited Twentieth-Century Texas: A Social and Cultural History (University of North Texas Press, 2008), and edited Women and the Texas Revolution (University of North Texas Press, 2012). Dr. Scheer was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Potsdam, Germany, in 2004.
